A Happy and Blessed New Year to you!
I am amazed that a new year is already upon us., the ninth year of the
millennium!
This year is the beginning of the
Book of Faith Initiative
in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
This is an opportunity for us all to get
back to the Bible in 2009.
We know that the Bible is the most important book in the world for
Christians. It is the word of God
to humanity, God’s love letter to us.
And yet, many Christians do not read it regularly.
The Bible is a big book—actually, it is a small library of books, bound together
as one big book. The Bible can be
intimidating to crack open and read.
It’s hard to get into; it’s hard to start.
Well, here is my challenge and encouragement for this next year:
let’s read the whole Bible in 2009!
When you read it a little every day, you can read through the Bible in a
year in about 15 minutes each day.
For
each day there are two or three chapters from the Old Testament, and just a
short passage from the New Testament.
We will have
Through the Bible
reading plans available at church, and put it in the newsletter each month.
I am also going to have a short email message each day, reflecting on the
passages for that day. If you want
to be added to our email list, please email
Grace Lutheran Church.
I encourage you to make daily Bible reading a part of your life in 2009.
You can do it whenever and however it works for you: some people like to
get up early and read, some people like to read before they go to bed.
However you do it, set aside some time to read the Bible and pray every
day. Pray for God to guide you
through the day. Pray for others.
Pray for your church. Pray
for you community and nation and world.
Pray for God to speak to you through God’s word in the Bible.
Walking with you in God’s amazing grace,
Pastor
